02 Ingredients
2 ½ cups All-Purpose Flour
1 tbsp Sugar
1 tsp Salt
2 tbsp Butter (softened)
1 cup Warm Water (about 110°F / 43°C)
2 tsp Active Dry Yeast
1 tbsp Olive Oil (optional, for added moisture)
03 Method
Step 1
In a small bowl, dissolve Sugar in Warm Water. Sprinkle Active Dry Yeast over the water and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
Step 2
In a large mixing bowl, combine Flour and Salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and Olive Oil (if using).
Step 3
Mix until a dough forms. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes, adding more flour if necessary, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
Step 4
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Step 5
Once the dough has risen, punch it down to remove air bubbles. Shape the dough into a loaf by rolling it out and folding it into a tight log. Place the dough into a greased 9x5 inch loaf pan.
Step 6
Cover the pan with a cloth and let it rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) during this time.
Step 7
Bake the bread for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
Step 8
Remove from the pan and let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
